On the morning of Simchat Torah, October 7,
We woke up to a brutal attack perpetrated by an enemy who wanted to destroy us. In the face of the evil, murder, kidnapping, and abuse, the heroism, brotherhood, and dedication of soldiers, civilian residents, and citizens from all parts of the country who risked life and limb to save their brothers and sisters, was revealed. Many of them indeed paid the highest price of all while repelling the murderous attack.
We are a people with a historical memory of thousands of years.
Memory is a primary source of strength and shaper of our identity. Out of respect for our heritage and collective memory, it is incumbent upon us to commemorate the fallen in a way that leaves room for the bravery and spirit of hope of the people, alongside the loss and bereavement. Our moral duty to those who have lost their lives, to the wounded in body and soul, and to their families is to remember in a way that inspires and strengthens, not weakens nor discourages.
It is incumbent upon us to create a significant, dignified, and valuable memorial that will commemorate the sacrifice of the fallen, strengthen and comfort the survivors, and honor the heroism of the citizens of the South both on that bitter day and in the years preceding it; citizens who have bravely maintained a presence in the Gaza Envelope, cultivated agriculture and industry, maintained flourishing settlements in challenging conditions, and essentially “stood on the ramparts” for the rest of the country. They fulfilled the values of Zionism in both body and spirit.
Future generations will draw strength, bravery, and love of people and the country from the memory of their heroism.

We, who have paid the dearest price of all, the lives of our wonderful loved ones, feel an obligation and a privilege to perpetuate their memory in a way that honors their lives and the ideology in whose name they fell: The people of Israel will flourish in their land.
The wounded, the commanding officers as well as citizens who participate in various other combat circles, have united to create a significant and valuable commemoration of our loved ones for future generations.
We will not forget the absolute evil that was revealed before our eyes. We will not forget the beauty of the fallen. We will not forget the heroism, the evil, and the hope.
Our goal is to carve the memory of our heroes on the heart of the State of Israel forever and to continue their legacy of building and safeguarding her, both in deed and in spirit.
We, the bereaved families, the battle wounded, the fighters, the commanders, and citizens from all parts of the nation, have established the National Remembrance Forum, which will work to develop a meaningful and valuable commemoration for the war for the fallen and for those who live in its shadow.
Our members include the wounded and their families, reservists, medical personnel, and ordinary citizens, who requested a commemoration that would honor the tremendous heroism of the fighters, policemen, standby units, reservists, and brave citizens who stopped the enemy with their very bodies.
We are the ones who remember, we are the ones who hurt, we are the ones who raise the flag.
We will continue to create, we will continue to build, and we will continue to live and plant seeds for the future, thereby fulfilling the will of our loved ones.
Recovery from the disaster that happened to us on Simchat Torah, October 7,
is contingent on creating a national commemoration worthy of the heroism and legacy of the fallen.
We intend to work with state institutions and civil authorities to ensure that the memory of the fallen receives its proper place:
A memorial that strengthens those who behold it;
A memorial of heroism and brotherhood, which will emphasize the tremendous spirit of heroism that was revealed on that bitter day and the brotherhood that was exhibited at the moment of truth despite a year of petty and debilitating national in-fighting;
A memorial that sanctifies life in the face of the brutal murders at the hands of our enemies that will emphasize that we choose life and goodness;
A memorial that will strengthen the connection to the land and give a historical perspective, reminding us that we are a link in a Zionist chain of hundreds of generations and that in each one of those generations, a new threat rises and attempts to break that chain, and fails in doing so, thanks to the eternal nature of the Jewish people.
The legacy of the fallen is a constructive, unifying, and forward-looking spirit.
We must create a better future in their name, a future of resilience and prosperity for the State of Israel. A commemoration with a national dimension is a cornerstone for the rehabilitation of the bereaved families, who will know that the State of Israel remembers their loved ones, embodies the values for which they gave their lives, and cherishes their heroism.
This commemoration will instill hope and inspire repair, increasing national resilience and thereby encouraging the fusion of the rifts in Israeli society.
